AsburyPop, a free event held on November 6, 2009, provided a venue for the local Twitter community to share their talent and experience through exhibition, performance, and education.  Local business owners, marketing experts, founders of nonprofits, journalists, music promotors, and educators spoke to a crowd of over 100 attendees at Parlor Gallery on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park.  In conjunction with the New Jersey Film Alliance’s 140secondfilmfestival, I created this event to highlight what was then a fledgeling social media platform and how a variety of individuals at the Jersey Shore used Twitter to reach potential customers, clients, and the community at large.  With sponsors such as Best Buy, Langosta Lounge, Funkychunks soap and Maryanna’s Sweet Tea, this event became the impetus for the growth in the use of social media in our area.

Going beyond Twitter, social media now encompasses Facebook Pages, LinkedIn Profiles, YouTube and Vimeo videos, Flickr photo sharing, and the new kid on the block, Google+.  If you’re curious about how you can harness social media to promote yourself, your brand, or your event, please contact me.
