Laughter

In order to survive the last decade, I resorted to humor more often than not. I’m sure I’d be serving a long sentence for at least one felony conviction without it! Adult bullies, TPS reports, an ever changing curriculum, a 10.5% reduction in take home pay, the list is long yet it’s just another day as a teacher in New Jersey. I think most of my peers would agree what gets us out of bed in the morning, sits us down at our computers on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and out to a school event on a Friday evening is the students.

They make us laugh, cry, scream, and cheer 180 days throughout the year!

I’ve shared photos taken by Caiti Borruso on this blog before, and last week she took one of another student that makes me laugh every time I look at it.  I first had Pete in Animation class last spring and now see him 3 hours per day in 2 classes this fall.  I worry when he’s absent, and I’m almost as concerned about his college application process as I am about my son’s.  This fall in eCommerce, he and his team came up with a business concept called The Pursuit of Happiness: short sleeved men’s suits complete with shorts made out of linen.

I know, I laughed too, but they went with the concept, and Caiti took this photo as part of their look book for the Pursuit website:

All the stress of the school year just melts away when I look at that picture! Caiti kindly ordered a print for my bulletin board so I can enjoy Pete’s enthusiasm as I go through the school day. Both students bring a real joy to my life and I offer this post as a heartfelt thank you!

This picture makes me smile too :) It’s great to see teenagers with a positive outlook on life… God knows mine has been darkened quite a lot in the last few months.

    What a great photo!

I have a few photos that I keep around simply because they make me smile. One that I kept in my wallet for years was a shot of my dog caught in mid-yawn, except it looks like she’s actually a drunken person trying to speak… It’s hard to explain, but if you saw it, you’d laugh, too!

Hmmm… I wonder what ever happened to that photo? If I find it, I’ll post it to my blog and let you know!
