About VoxPopNJ

VoxPop is a shortened version of the phrase vox populi or “voice of the people”.  Back in 2009, I organized the AsburyPop Social Media event, one of the very first “unconferences”, in conjunction with the 140 Second Film Festival.  The success of that event prompted me to found a company that extended the purpose of AsburyPop but kept the community based nature of the event.  A friend and the creator of that film festival suggested VoxPop, I added NJ because just about everything I do, I do at the Jersey Shore, and VoxPopNJ was born!

Ten months out of the year I teach at a local vocational high school, and after 10 years, you’d think I’d finally graduate!  My class subjects are always changing since I have the luck, good or ill, to teach topics like web design, java programming, social media, and my newest curriculum, e-publishing.  I truly enjoy freelance tech projects for local businesses and have recently branched out to provide social media services to individuals and companies within the US.

When I started this website in 2003, I had no idea that the resource I built for my students would grow to be a company with my primary audience the world at large.  I’ve moved from a static HTML website, to Flash, to a CSS driven design, and now WordPress with the Apocalyptic Diner podcast as an added bonus!  I’ve also added guest posts and other innovative platforms like Audioboo to VoxPopNJ in an effort to meet the needs of my readership and listeners.

In response to the popularity of the vegan versions of my favorite recipes published on the blog for the last 2 years, I created The Market Vegan digital cookbook.  Proceeds from cookbook sales support both the blog and the podcast.  If you enjoy what you read and hear at VoxPopNJ, please consider purchasing a copy!
